ZEMBA is the key to unlocking zero-emission shipping
The Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA) is an innovative buyers group for freight buyers to eliminate ocean freight emissions and leverage economies of scale, while maintaining logistical flexibility. ZEMBA membership is open to any company that purchases ocean-going freight services and wishes to reduce Scope 3 (supply chain) maritime emissions. Together, members will:
- Gain access to emissions reductions (environmental attributes) fromZE shipping through a tested, low-risk mechanism
- Lower their Scope 3 emissions
- Catalyze zero emission investments across the maritime sector
- Effectively demonstrate climate leadership
Who is ZEMBA Membership For?
ZEMBA membership is open to freight buyers, freight forwarders, or aggregators with eligible Scope 3 obligations wishing to purchase environmental attribute certificates from decarbonized container shipping. This could include members operating in segments beyond the container segment, depending on the nature of their Scope 3 obligations.

ZEMBA is recruiting new members ahead of our next tender, which is focused on aggregating demand to support the first-ever commercial deployment of e-fuel-powered shipping services in the maritime sector.
When considering ZEMBA membership please remember:
- There is no membership fee at this time
- Contracting with the winning carrier(s) is bilateral, ZEMBA serves as a broker or facilitator, but doesn’t get in the middle of your carrier relationships
- By using book-and-claim and purchasing environmental attributes certificates, ZEMBA’s tenders have no impact on your current logistics or procurement practices for physical freight movement
- Members gain access to first-of-its-kind solutions and pricing on zero-emission shipping services that are not publicly available, although any qualifying freight buyer company is welcome to join ZEMBA
- By acting ahead of regulation, your company can show demonstrable climate leadership, avoid/reduce the costs of delayed action, and help generate important real-world market information to inform policy making to advance zero emission solutions
